Thermal insulation
In
recent years the heat retention requirements for windows have increased. Most
of the heat lost in buildings is lost through the windows. With deeper construction
depths and the introduction of multi-chambered systems, however, vinyl window
profiles are – according to the new thermal protection directives – rated
Class I amongst window frames. When combined with modern insulating panes,
U-values of well under 1.0 W/m²K can be achieved.
Four chambers and more for better insulation
The ever-increasing demands for better heat retention have motivated us as profile systems manufacturer to increase the insulating qualities of our products. One of the main goals of this development programme was to achieve heat transfer coefficients equal to the glazing. In the beginning, the goal was to improve the insulation factor without altering the profile width. Although increasing the number of chambers from two to three chambers brought a marked improvement, dividing the profiles into more chambers did not bring about the desired effect. The solution to this dilemma was to begin from afresh, with new designs and new profile widths of 70 millimetres and more. This made it possible to achieve lower U-values whilst still employing standard steel stiffeners inside the frames. When used with with thermal insulation glazing, U-values of 1.2W/m²K are no longer just a dream. With new developments such as the S 7000 IQ plus system, U-values as low as 0.98 W/m²K can be achieved.
Installing new windows can pay for itself
Old, leaky windows are one of the largest sources of heat loss in a building. They are literally the "chink in the armour". New, airtight windows reduce heating costs and save money. With the GEALAN energy calculator, homeowners can see for themselves how cost-effective new windows can be.
