Core Proficiencies of the GEALAN Group
The Coextrusion Process
"Producing quality means achieving a perfect interplay between man and machine. GEALAN today uses modern, high-tech processes to precisely shape plastic."
Wolfgang Auernheimer, Director of Extrusion
In
the coextrusion process the base body, while still in a semifluid paste
form, is inseparably bonded with a molten acrylic paste. This process is
carried out within a special coextrusion tool die, in which a second extruder
is mounted onto the main extruder and feeds the acrylic paste into the
tool die. The coloured acrylic surface is added to that part of the profile
that later will be exposed to sunlight, rain and snow. The acrylcolor profile
then leaves the tool die, already two-coloured. This combination of two disparate
materials (acrylic and PVC) results in a product that can fulfil its intended
role even better. Coextrusion stands for unparalleled colour stability.
Even after years between installing replacement windows, there is no visible
difference between the first and the last window frames.
GEALAN has been using the coextrusion process since 1980. The resulting experience in the field has been rewarded the RAL seal of quality, as well as the South German Plastics Centre's quality mark. The same process is also used to create recycled profiles.
