Core Proficiencies of the GEALAN Group
Tool and Die Construction for Plastics Extrusion
"In order to meet the requirements of a growing selection of profiles, GEALAN has modernised its internal tool and die shop and markedly increased capacity and performance."
Reinhard Peschek, director tool and die construction
Through
the introduction of the systems S 7000 IQ and S 8000 IQ within two years,
GEALAN Window Systems has increased production demands on the in-house
tool and die shop. To meet this new demand, GEALAN has conciously and decidedly
modernised these facilities.
After a one-year planning phase, the toolshop moved into its newly constructed quarters in 2002 with a total surface area of about 1000 m². Not only was the available space increased by 30%, the workspaces in the new toolshop were better arranged to help optimize the workflow. The new layout created short distances and allows for seamless project oversight. The shop can react quickly to changing requirements and make timely decisions. The closed circuit created between design, die construction and implementation allow a tight internal cooperation and exploitation of years of know-how, especially in making PMMA-extrusion dies for the existing coextrusion lines. At the heart of the department is the high-performance eroder centre for making standardised tool dies, from simple profile dies to high-performance dies for high throughput.
GEALAN's
Oberkotzau facilities produce all the
dies required for the four production facilities in Germany, Lithuania
and Romania on a flexible two-shift timetable. Thanks to current and projected
investments in newer, state-of-the-art equipment, GEALAN has the
ability to quickly, flexibly and efficiently meet market demands, especially
in devising local solutions for foreign markets.
