A one-of-a-kind surface

Coloured windows for life

What is acrylcolor?

During the colouring stage of the co-extrusion process, the white PVC substructure and the coloured acrylic glass are permanently bonded with one another in one step. Fusing both of these materials produces a semi-matt, coloured outer profile surface that withstands the effects of the weather with ease.

Proven for decades

GEALAN has been co-extruding its coloured acrylcolor profiles for nearly 40 years. It is setting standards by using this process, because of how different it is from other common colouring processes. The result is unsurpassed colour characteristics and many years of colour fastness. Windows featuring acrylcolor profiles also satisfy the most stringent technical and functional requirements.

No design specification too eccentric, no shade too obscure. With acrylcolor you are spoilt for choice. We have the right shade for every setting. From elegant white to modern silver, all colours are available. And, of course, colour-fast and RAL-tested.

GEALAN – the surface specialist

The principle of co-extrusion

During co-extrusion, the white PVC substructure and the coloured acrylic glass (PMMA) are permanently fused with one another. Acrylic glass is a high-quality product that has proven its qualities in industrial sectors such as the automotive industry (tail lights) and interior design. The vinyl profile acts as a carrier material, while the thin layer of acrylic glass is responsible for the profiles' colouring.

A one-of-a-kind surface texture

Brushing the acrylic layer not only produces a standardised grain, but also a fine, semi-matt gloss on the surface. This high-quality finish is unique on the coloured window market.

The white PVC melt is fed via the main extruder.
The coloured acrylic melt mass is added via a co-extruder.
The two liquid components are permanently bonded with one another in the co-extrusion tool.
To achieve a closed surface and a brilliant colour, the profile surface is polished with a grinding machine.

Benefits of acrylcolor

  • The hard acrylic surface is scratch-resistant and insensitive. acrylcolor windows are therefore counted amongst the most resistant of construction elements. Measuring around 0.5 mm, the acrylic layer is thicker than any layer of varnish. Should scratches ever appear on the surface, there is sufficient material left over to buff out the scratch.

  • Spalling or chipping of the coloured layer is permanently avoided due to the inseparable bond and hard surface.

Most of the profile systems offered by GEALAN are available in acrylcolor. You can choose between different standard colours and even metallic shades such as silver or aluminium.

  • Acrylic glass is an extremely colour-stable and light-fast material. Car tail lights are clear proof of the properties of this material.

  • As part of the external façade, the window profiles in particular are subjected to sunlight as well as weather, environmental and mechanical influences. So that coloured windows retain their aesthetic appeal over the years, profiles capable of withstanding this exposure are required. You are on the safe side with acrylcolor profiles from GEALAN. Over the years, acrylic glass has proven its resistance to the effects of aggressive weather in millions of car tail lights. The same material is also used for the surface of acrylcolor profiles. Windows featuring acrylcolor profiles are therefore robust, even under extreme climate conditions.

The white base layer under the layer of acrylic glass (which is permeable to infrared light) largely reflects the sun's rays. This greatly reduces heating of the profiles. The differences in temperature that occur between white and coloured profiles are astonishingly low.

  • The non-porous surface makes acrylcolor windows easy to clean. The elegant brushed effect also makes them insensitive to dirt.

  • Should a scratch become visible on the profile in spite of this, it can easily be removed using a Scotch Bright pad.
