Soundproofing

Noise-free spaces

Urban living in relaxed tranquillity

Schallschutz in urbaner Umgebung

Recent changes to construction law have included the introduction of a new “urban areas” construction area category. Municipalities are now permitted to offer living space in neighbourhoods that are already very built up, and where businesses and apartments are located in close proximity.

The new "GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster" (Hafencity Window) is perfect for use in these types of location: inner-city residential complexes with inhabitants who are not willing to eliminate natural ventilation, despite increased noise emissions. In other words, this window concept is a response to the increasing density of construction in major cities.

It is particularly attractive to developers and contractors, representing a modern window design that combines natural ventilation with soundproofing.

How humans perceive noise

Every person perceives noise differently. But we know for sure that a continuous noise level of 60 decibels and upwards stimulates stress responses during sleep, and from 80 decibels, your health may begin to suffer. Here are some examples to demonstrate sound levels experienced from a distance of up to 10 metres.

  • 10 dB: Breathing, rustling pages
  • 50 dB: Storms, refrigerator noises
  • 70 dB: Television, traffic noise
  • 90 dB: Truck, jackhammer
  • 130 dB: Car racing, fighter jet

Modern soundproofing

Soundproofed with natural ventilation

The "GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster" achieves a sound insulation value of up to 63 dB when closed – better than the sound insulation levels attainable with traditional windows and sound insulation glass, which only go up to 48 dB. Even when the window is partially open, the GEALAN system still achieves sound insulation of up to 34 dB, which has earned it the best ift Rosenheim certification rating.

The modern box window

The "GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster" is a combination of the GEALAN-KUBUS® and GEALAN S 9000 systems. Both individual elements have been brought together to form a single unit, using an assembly frame developed in-house. Rotary opening to the inside makes the windows easy and straightforward to clean; essentially, the tried-and-tested principle of the box window has been applied to a modern window design. So now, developers and contractors have a solution available that enables them to combine modern architecture with the highest standards in soundproofing and natural ventilation.

The benefits at a glance

Natural ventilation with maximum sound insulation

GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster® geöffnet

Fresh air with virtually no noise pollution – made possible thanks to the well-thought-out tilting function of the "GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster". Even when the window is partially open, the GEALAN system still achieves sound insulation of up to 34 dB, which has earned it the best ift Rosenheim certification rating.

Extreme soundproofing when the window is closed

GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster® geschlossen

The "GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster" maintains a quiet environment even more effectively when it is closed, achieving a proven sound insulation value of 63 dB and so keeping offices and apartments free of transport noise.

Easy to clean

Another advantage of the "GEALAN Hafen-City-Fenster" is the fact it can be easily cleaned from inside the room; essentially, the tried-and-tested principle of the box window has been applied to a modern window design.

Virtually invisible frame

With the combination of the GEALAN-KUBUS® and the GEALAN-LUMAXX® systems, the focus is on slender sight lines. A special combination of narrow mullion and sash elements ensures a minimally visible profile here, without any structural compromises.
