More efficiency and greater capacity: GEALAN builds new recycling hall at Tanna site

Construction starts on another GEALAN milestone: At the Tanna production and logistics site, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for a state-of-the-art recycling hall with additional silos. The project will cost around 6 million euros. Completion is planned for 2027, with the hall equipped with advanced recycling technology and fully operational by 2028.
Construction at the new Tanna site is already underway – now GEALAN, together with partners and invited guests, officially marked the start of construction with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony: By 2028, a new, state-of-the-art recycling hall will be built at the PVC systems house's production and logistics site. Additionally, silos with several hundred tons capacity for recycling material will be constructed.
Ivica Maurović, GEALAN Management spokesperson, frames this next company milestone: “With this new hall, modern technologies, and added capacity, we are investing in GEALAN’s future and further preparing ourselves for market demands. Moreover, the new building emphasizes the importance of our Tanna location and strengthens the entire region with this investment.” Tino Albert, GEALAN Managing Director of Technology and Finance, adds: "After building our fully automated high-bay warehouse just a few meters away, we are setting another highlight. The new options help us reduce transport distances, streamline processes, and prove that GEALAN continues to position itself as efficiently and sustainably as possible."

The symbolic groundbreaking for the recycling hall was performed by (from left): Ralf Hüttner (First Deputy Mayor of Tanna), Katrin Gersdorf (First Honorary Deputy District Administrator of Saale-Orla district), GEALAN Managing Directors Ivica Maurović and Tino Albert, Marie-Theres Wittig (Managing Director, Wittig Architectural Office) and Reinhard Schüß (Construction Manager, AS Bau).
The new hall, measuring approximately 70 x 26 meters, will largely house GEALAN’s recycling area. On an area of 58 x 26 meters, primarily PVC scraps will be shredded, sorted, and granulated. The reusable material will then be fed back into the production cycle. This enables the manufacture of window and door profiles that save virgin PVC and thus valuable resources. Additionally, social rooms will be created within this part of the new building for cross-departmental use.

On the remaining 12 x 26 meters of the new hall, a shuttle rack for extrusion tools will be installed. This allows all tools required in profile production to be consolidated in one place, simplifying and streamlining processes.
Completion of the new building is planned for 2027. Afterwards, interior fitting and installation of recycling technologies and machines will take place. The relocation of all recycling components to the new building is expected to be completed in 2028.
Ivica Maurović highlights the major benefits: “With the new building, our entire recycling process will be centralized in Tanna. This eliminates transports between Oberkotzau and Tanna, and production processes will no longer be interrupted by location changes.” Tino Albert explains the upgrade in automation: “This will ease the workload for our employees. Additionally, with new spaces, machines, and silos, we will expand our capacities and be able to produce and process even larger quantities of recycling material more efficiently.”
